An illustration assignment I was commissioned to do by The Walrus magazine, one of Canada's best magazines. The article is a true crime story about a case of missing aboriginal girl in the city of Regina. The main theme of the article is that every lead ends cold with more and more questions opening up the deeper and deeper the investigation went.
My art director, Meredith Holigroski, and I developed a great idea of scenes from the investigation nested inside each other with the silhouette of the girl being the window to each layer. It ends up being a perfect illustration of the investigation, with the eye searching each layer to make sense of it and to find the outline of the girl.
Meredith had the great idea to have the portrait of the girl on the next opposite page, so when the page is turned she is staring back at you. I'm really proud of it and happy to share it with you.
